Sander van der Leeuw, ASU, Phoenix, USA Description: In this panel, a group of scientists and practitioners from different disciplines will discuss resilience or robustness of urban systems when applied at different temporal, spatial, jurisdictional scales. The resilience framework is discussed with regards to its usefulness for demonstrating the role of functioning ecosystems for generating services and the ability for innovation and developing governance systems for coping with natural disasters as well as social and political crises. The presentations will cover a wide range of ecological, social, cultural and economic contexts, based on research conducted in many different cities.
